Training for Employees
JETCO Training Subsidy Policy
(Employees and Apprentices excluding Group Training Apprentices – see section 4 and 5)
1. Purpose
This policy outlines the eligibility criteria, conditions, and procedures for employees and apprentices to access training subsidies from JETCO. It ensures consistent and fair application of funding across all applicants.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
- Employees contributing to the JETCO Training Fund
- Apprentices registered in CIRT undertaking an apprenticeship in the electrical contracting industry
3. Employee Eligibility
3.1 Contribution Requirements
Employees are eligible for training subsidies based on their contribution history to the JETCO Training Fund:
- Minimum Eligibility:
Employees with 6 consecutive monthly contributions are eligible for a subsidy of up to $500 for approved training.
- Enhanced Eligibility:
Employees with 12 consecutive monthly contributions are eligible for increased subsidies based on employer contribution levels into the training fund:
- $5.00/week → are eligible for a subsidy of up to $1,200
- $10.00/week → are eligible for a subsidy of up to $1,800
- $15.00/week → are eligible for a subsidy of up to $2,200
3.2 Determination of Eligibility
- Eligibility is determined at the date the training commences
- Subsidy limits apply per financial year
- An employee will remain eligible for a subsidy on approved courses commenced up to 6 months after payments into JETCO have ceased.
- Training subsidy application form and relevant documentation supporting the claim must be submitted to JETCO
Applicants are responsible for confirming course approval prior to enrolment.
4. Group Training Apprentice Eligibility (Effective 1st April 2026)
This benefit has been established in respect of Group Training Apprentices who do not qualify under the provisions of section 3)
4.1 General Eligibility
Apprentices are eligible to apply for training subsidies where they:
- Are registered in CIRT
- Are actively undertaking an apprenticeship in the electrical contracting industry
- Provide proof of apprenticeship in the form of a training contract
4.2 Subsidy Cap
- Apprentices are eligible for a maximum subsidy of $600 per financial year
5. Special Provisions – Group Training Apprentices
5.1 Background
Group training apprentices may experience interruptions in JETCO fund contributions (or no contributions) due to:
- Attendance at TAFE
- Movement between host employers
- Engagement with host employers not participating in CIRT
5.2 Eligibility Exception
Where apprentices:
- Have irregular or insufficient contribution history, and
- Are verified as CIRT-registered apprentices
They may be deemed eligible for:
- A subsidy of up to $600 per financial year, in line with apprentice eligibility
5.3 Assessment Process
- Applications must not be automatically rejected due to contribution gaps
- Staff must review the apprentice’s CIRT account history
- Where contribution interruptions align with expected apprenticeship movement, the claim should be assessed under apprentice eligibility provisions
5.4 Approved Training
To qualify for a subsidy:
- Eligibility is determined at the date the training commences
- Subsidy limits apply per financial year
- An employee will remain eligible for a subsidy on approved courses commenced up to 6 months after payments into JETCO have ceased.
- Training subsidy application form and relevant documentation supporting the claim must be submitted to JETCO

7. Claim Requirements
All applicants must submit the following documentation:
- Completed Training Subsidy Application Form
- Proof of course completion (certificate or equivalent)
- Invoice for the training
- Proof of payment
Additional requirement for apprentices:
- Copy of training contract
Incomplete applications may result in delays or rejection.
8. Claim Process
- Select an appropriate training course that is listed as an approved course Approved Training or confirm course approval and eligibility with JETCO
- Enrol in and complete the training
- Submit all required documentation
- Receive reimbursement via direct deposit
9. Conditions of Payment
- Subsidies are only payable upon successful completion of the training
- Reimbursement will not be made for incomplete or unapproved courses
- All claims are subject to verification of eligibility and supporting documentation
10. Review
This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure alignment with industry requirements and funding arrangements.
